Dear Expectant Parents,
We are Wade and Whitney. It’s nice to meet you. We know it must be challenging to even be on this page. We respect you and respect whichever decision you make. You are strong. We would like to take a moment and welcome you into our life if only for a moment or for a lifetime. We want to give you a snapshot into who we are and what our life looks like on the everyday. We would like to thank you for taking time out of your schedule to get to know us a little better than just two names on a screen.
Our Story
We began dating in the winter of 2010 in a movie-type romance of boy meets girl, boy likes girl, girl doesn’t like boy, BUT boy continues to pursue girl until one day girl finally realizes boy is one-of-a-kind and a spectacular surprise. The rest is history.
We married in the fall of 2012. Shortly after getting married, we began trying for a little one. Weeks turned into months and months slowly turned into years. It was a huge struggle fighting infertility when our desire to become parents was so large. We knew we wanted to pursue adoption early on in our relationship. It was a conversation we had even before even getting married. We always knew we would adopt at some point, however, the timing of when was always uncertain, well...until one day.
We remember the day crystal clear. We had been married for four years. As we set on the couch one evening, we looked at each other. “Was it more important to have a biological child or was it more important to us to add to our family?” We knew the answer. We knew it was time to pursue adoption.
In the summer of 2017, we met our son who ultimately changed our lives forever in the greatest way possible.
Meet My Husband, Wade
I know many would say their husband is one-of-a-kind, but truly, I am here to say I hit the jackpot when I married Wade. Words like driven, hilarious, family-oriented, hard-working, selfless, intelligent, caring, and coffee-obsessed only seem to tip the iceberg of who my husband is. Wade was born and raised in the southern part of Kansas City. He is the youngest of three brothers. He was raised in a family where the saying “If it’s broke, then you fix it” rang true throughout his home. This bred an amazing work ethic that has bled throughout every area of his life. Wade is employed as a Licensed Insurance Agent. He succeeds at everything he sets his mind to. Wade pours his time into our marriage, being an outstanding, hands-on dad, and excels at his current job.
Meet My Wife, Whitney
Whitney was born in the Kansas City area, but throughout her childhood, she traveled the country as her dad served in the United States Military. She is the love of my life, one reason I continually work to be better than I was yesterday. She has this effect on me by just being herself. She is intelligent. Whitney has a strong whit about herself. She is also hilarious, but don’t tell her I told you. She is hands-down one of the funniest people I know. One of her most notable qualities is her heart for others. The amount of empathic love she has for anyone is humbling to be around. I believe that is just one characteristic of hers that has shaped her into a compassionate and loving Mom, a driven wife, and an amazing friend anyone would be lucky to have.
Meet Our Son, Atlas
Our son, Atlas, is 2 years old. He’s a happy, curious toddler who loves exploring and analyzing everything about his surroundings. He’s a talker. He has many stories to tell and he loves sharing them. Atlas will be a wonderful big brother one day. He enjoys playing with other little ones. He has a soft, kind soul. Oh, and his laugh. It will light up any room for days. He is an absolute joy. We feel utterly honored and blessed that he is a part of our family.
Meet Our Family Dog, Barklee
Barklee is our playful five-year old poodle-terrier mix. He’s nine pounds soaking wet. He’s a small little guy, but his love is fierce. He is a wonderful family dog who thrives on his moments spent playing with Atlas. He enjoys belly-rubs and cuddling with anyone who will give him love.
He is gentle. He is a lover, not a fighter.
A Glimpse Into Our Everyday Life
We enjoy a simple life surrounded by lots of coffee and ample amounts of laughter as we spend lots of quality time together as a family creating memories. We enjoy family-outings and playing with our little guy. We enjoy trying new coffee shops and restaurants. When the weather is nice, we visit parks around the city on the weekly. Oh and we can’t forget our frequent trips to the Zoo. I mean who doesn’t like looking at otters or penguins or Atlas’ favorite, ALL THE FISH. Board games are seen on our kitchen table quite often. We can appreciate a good Battleship game while catching up on one of our favorite shows while the little one sleeps. Ahem, Whitney is the current running champ in our house. We also find pleasure in entertaining our family and friends at our home. We also enjoy setting up play dates with Atlas and his little friends, especially his little cousin. Life to us is about spending time with those we love.
